About Boise
The City
Boise, Idaho’s capital city, is cradled in the foothills of the Rocky mountains in southwest Idaho. What originally sprang up as a gold mining town along the Oregon Trail in the 1860’s is now the largest metropolitan area in the state, with a population of over 185,000. Today, Boise’s thriving economy supports not only its residents but also several major regional, national and international corporations that maintain headquarters there.
Besides steady population growth and a vibrant economy, Boise boasts an outdoor recreation paradise, both by itself and as a gateway to Idaho. The state’s many rivers, mountains and resorts make it an ideal place for just about any outdoor activity imaginable, from biking to skiing to whitewater rafting. With a river flowing through the heart of the city and a 25–mile greenbelt connecting numerous urban parks, the city itself is a blend of natural beauty and urban attractions. Despite it’s apparent isolation in the plains of the intermountain west, Boise also offers a diverse spectrum of entertainment. Various museums are located throughout the city and visitors can enjoy everything from jazz to theater to art in Boise’s fine arts venues.
